The TADA Legacy -- Theatre Arts Dance America (TADA) was founded in 1997 by Soloists and Principal dancers of ABT (American Ballet Theatre) Buddy Balou’ and Elaine Kudo, with the goal of providing exceptional and proper dance training in an inclusive nurturing environment in New Jersey. Buddy Balou’ and Elaine Kudo bring their extensive backgrounds from major US dance companies including ABT, Jerome Robbins Ballet USA, Twyla Tharp Dance Company, American Repertory Ballet and renowned Broadway musicals, Michael Bennett's "A Chorus Line" and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s, "Song and Dance" with Bernadette Peters. To provide New Jersey’s young aspiring talent the proper dance education, and opportunity to be true their talent. Aside from working with almost all the great Choreographers of the past like Agnes De Mille, Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, Anthony Tudor, Elliot Feld, Glen Tetley, Leonard Massine, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp and more, they have also performed along side such stars as Lucia Chase, director and founder of ABT, Sally Wilson, Ann Bancroft, Shirley MacLaine, Michael Douglas, Bob Newhart, Bebe Neuwirth, Jerome Robins, Johnny Kritsa, Hugh Lang, Eugene Loring, Leon Danelian, Ivan Nagy, Gelsey Kirkland, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Rudolph. Nureyev, Natalia Makarova, Erik Bruhn, Ted Kivit, Royes Fernandez, Fernando Bujones, Lope' Seranno, Carla Fracci, Cynthia Gregory, John Prinz, Eleanor D'Antonio, Dennis Wayne, Donna McKechnie, Kelly Bishop and Priscilla Lopez.
The TADA Collection -- Beginning with the 2010-11 School Year, East Coast Movement and TADA are one - with TADA living on as "The TADA Collection", a comprehensive program within ECM offering lessons in Ballet/ Pointe, Jazz, and Modern dance to beginner through professional levels in a motivating environment that challenges students to push beyond their own boundaries in order to cultivate their natural talent to its fullest potential. The TADA Collection is easily identified in our fall 2010 schedule as the classes shaded in green (these classes are also listed below on the TADA Collection registration guide). The integration of The TADA Collection with ECM holds great promise for our community -- it brings together two groups of dancers, families and friends, with many common interests -- while at the same time introduces diverse experience and skills. The result.... what we all do with this opportunity. Buddy Balou', co-founder of TADA, had the following words to say in connection with the journey ahead: "The studio's are beautiful, the dancers are beautiful, as you'll see, as we dance together as one. You'll also note that other doors have been opened for us to grow as artists by being exposed, in a positive way, to other teachers and classes you can experience , such as Acting, Singing, Tap, Contemporary and [more]. I have witnessed it and is is wonderful. With all of these great artists available ... from this move ... it opens the doors for your dreams and greatness to be realized."
Performance Ballet -- Ballet is an integral part of our dance program at East Coast Movement. Many of our dancers attend between two and eight ballet classes every week. Rather than choreograph and present a Spring recital piece for each of our nineteen weekly ballet classes, we combine our dancers from these classes into two ballet recital pieces – one for the Ballet 1-3 levels and another for the Ballet 4-5 levels. Mark Burrell choreographs these pieces during two “Ballet Performance” classes. Mark begin the “Performance Ballet” program with technique-based classes in order to get to know the dancers and, in particular, their ballet skills. As the school year progresses, he begins to blend in choreography and rehearsing, as the annual recital approaches. Our Artistic Director, Billy Larson, together with our entire faculty encourage everyone in the ballet program at ECM to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to participate in the recital ballet number.
